Suggs Foundation Partners with d.r.e.a.m BIG!
There is a well-known quote that says “Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.” This quote is somewhat indicative of the Suggs Foundation and the dream that this organization has set out to achieve. The Dream is to one day launch SUGGS-CESS® Centers in a variety of cities around the country, the Price is hard work and continuous commitment. Holding true to its mission the Suggs Foundation strives to one day establish itself as a viable pipeline supplying technically astute, community-oriented, and environmentally conscious individuals into American society. One path that we’ve chosen to assist us in realizing our dream is through partnerships with other organizations that share our common goals and purpose; such as the d.r.e.a.m. BIG Foundation.
The d.r.e.a.m. BIG motto is to Inspire, Dream, and Achieve! Their mission is to provide necessary information to under-privileged youth that will help bridges the gap between high school and college; which is very much in-line with the Suggs Foundation’s objective to help young adults by alleviating the difficulties experienced when making critical transitions in academics (i.e. transitioning from high school to college).
The d.r.e.a.m. BIG Foundation hosts an annual Success Seminar that stimulates and generates interest for continued education post high school. The Success Seminars are tailored for high school students that may already be thinking about college or have not yet considered the possibility. The seminar offers interactive workshops focused in 5 distinct d.r.e.a.m. core value areas:
‘D’eveloping Leaders
‘R’aising Political Awareness
‘E’conomic Empowerment
‘A’cademic Excellence
‘M’ental & Social Wellness
The workshops are facilitated by education professionals, non-profit organizations and college alumni who are dedicated to pushing our youth forward.
The Success Seminar are free to the public and this year’s seminar was held at the Charles Drew Charter School in metro Atlanta. The Suggs Foundation was invited to serve on the discussion panel and address the participants in open dialog regarding political awareness and the role it plays in the education system; in addition to discussing the critical life challenges and decision faced upon graduating from high school.
The Suggs Foundation was not only a facilitator for this event, but it was also a sponsor.
